Prague-Ruzyne Airport - Czech Republic

Prague-Ruzyne Airport, the town airport, located 10 km from the city centre, is one of the most modern in Europe. With large parking areas situated outside the main hall, it was designed to accommodate at least five million passengers a year.

Work on the airport began in 1929 and the basic construction was completed in 1937, the year in which the airport first opened. Over the years, construction works have been carried out in several phases, in which the various blocks of buildings erected have changed not only the capacity but also the quality of air traffic, in addition to contributing to its growth.

The "B Finger" for Terminal 1 North dates back to 1996. In 2001, work began on an extension of this zone, including signifi cant technical improvements and the aesthetic renovation of the previously existing part.

Particular attention was given to the interior design with the aim of creating a modern and hospitable environment, a space that would refl ect the contemporary nature of the architecture but entirely lacking the coldness of many similar public places.

The selection of the colours and materials was a decisive factor in achieving this goal. The main hall is accented with columns rising to a bright ceiling painted white and dotted with lights. The columns stand on an elegant red floor created using Multicolor Red manufactured granite.

The design choices for the new interiors aimed at ensuring that the quality of the result was matched by its beauty and brightness.

Technologiezentrum Rohde & Schwarz - München

Germany's renown, Rohde & Schwarz Company, a leader in the design, development and production of highly technological equipment, boasts among its roster of illustrious clients a number of private companies and public institutions, as well as the armed forces.

Rohde & Schwarz was founded back in the 30’ and now, 70 years later, it has offices all over the world.
The company headquarters is located at No. 15 Mühldorfstraße in Munich: the so-called Technologiezentrum. This centre is a 35 million-euro facility that is laid out over a surface area of some 16,000 square meters, containing both offices and workshops.
The job of the designer is to create a work environment capable of stimulating creativity in the people intended to occupy the space he has fashioned.

The Technologiezentrum is composed of five structures connected to one another by means of an imposing entry area featuring lots of glass and aluminium, achieving stunning aesthetic results. Natural light easily penetrates the structure through large windows, creating a luminous interior. The roof of the building constitutes a sort of window onto the sky above and by simply looking upward one can admire its ever-changing colours.

This architectural device imbues the facility with an especially dramatic "open-air" feeling. 60x30 slabs of Ardesia Nera and Ardesia Cinza were employed for this entry area, considered to be the most important part of the entire complex.

These particular ceramic materials blend perfectly with the overarching formal and aesthetic theme of the structure, while at the same time guaranteeing all the heavy-duty performance properties necessary for a floor exposed to high volumes of foot traffic.

The checker-board pattern of the installation scheme makes a dramatic statement: the slabs of Ardesia Nera and Ardesia Cinza have been alternated in a carefully studied sequence, making this central part of the complex extremely attractive and eye-catching.

The offices and public spaces, laid out over 5 floors, feature Ardesia Nera and Cinza in the slate finish and the following sizes: 60x60, 40x40 and 30x30.
The firm responsible for the design is headed by an architect by the name of Heese, one of the most important design professionals in Bavaria.

LOT-EK (Ada Tolla + Giuseppe Lignano) - Gravity - FMGxtreme

The New York studio was inspired by the blocks of stone, veins and cuts in its interpretation of the theme of the tiny space. Their micro-environment is a compact body, a monolithic cube made dynamic by the cuts and the rhythm of the slabs of FMG materials set side by side. A central slit represents the habitable space.

Italo Rota - FMGxtreme

The Milanese architect goes back to the origins of matter with his characteristic irony. Elements made of Iris FMG marble and granite come back to life in "mineral" walls that form an alienating space created by transparencies and mirror games. In the centre, against a backdrop of sand, an iguana made out of slabs of man-made marble looks toward the future with its primordial eye.
